MERLENE SMITH

AUTHOR

Merlene Smith is a committed mother, grandmother, chaplain, teacher, and author. Her journey of faith and service spans decades and is marked by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to God’s Kingdom. She served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher at The Potter’s House church in Dallas, Texas for several years before transitioning to Trinity Church in Cedar Hill, Texas, where she has been an active and dedicated member for over 16 years. At Trinity, Merlene ministers through prayer and prophetic intercession, nurturing lives with grace and wisdom. Known for her compassionate spirit and loyalty to family, friends, and community - both in the United States and abroad - Merlene embodies the heart of a servant leader.

Born in Belize City, Central America, Merlene grew up in a Christian family. Her brother, a pastor for over 40 years, left a spiritual mantle that she now embraces with boldness and purpose. Today, Merlene is passionate about winning souls for God’s Kingdom and stewarding His people wherever He leads her. Her mission is clear: to impact lives through prayer, teaching, and writing, using every platform God provides.

What is the backstory behind your work, and what inspired you to write it?

The background of my journey is that I believe I was chosen to make a difference in the lives of God’s people. However, I remained disobedient for many years until my experience in 2021, when I distinctly heard the Lord’s voice. I sense that I have been called to influence the lives of God’s people through my testimony, yet I have been disobedient and have failed to fulfill this calling.

The experience that motivated me to write was significant. I refer to it as an experience because I refuse to label anything that is not divine. When I encountered my experience, which was a stroke, I lost my ability to speak; reading aloud and constructing words and sentences became part of my rehabilitation. Frustration sets in when you transition from being capable of having a complete conversation to needing to relearn how to speak entirely. It felt akin to a child learning to articulate. I began by writing brief sentences and then reading them out loud. One day, in my moment of frustration, I heard a voice suggesting that I should share my journey to inspire someone rather than dwell in discouragement. Write a book. There are stories within you waiting to be told. I was taken aback, but when the Lord communicates with you, it is essential to respond with obedience.
